Emanuel Gives $12,000 to Community Partners

On October 13, Emanuel celebrated the ministry of Vanessa's Pantry and marked the next chapter of its life as a part of the new Choice Food and Resource Center, a client-choice food pantry at the Unity Square Community Center. During the celebration, the Emanuel Community Development Corporation presented a $5,000 check to the Unity Square Community Center to purchase food for the Choice Food and Resource Center. Emanuel presented an additional $5,000 check to Unity Square from its endowment fund. The ECDC also presented $2,000 to the Interfaith Winter Shelter, which is reorganizing this year to provide overnight shelter to fifteen men in various houses of worship throughout the coldest months of the winter. From clients to volunteers to donors, Emanuel is grateful to everyone who has supported our pantry over the years!

Holy Week and Easter 2024

You're invited to join Emanuel in person or via FaceBook livestream to celebrate Holy Week and Easter! During Holy Week, we travel to the cross with Jesus before celebrating his resurrection on Easter.

This year, our Holy Week and Easter services include:

Palm Sunday, March 24: Service in person and via livestream at 10:00 am. We wave palms and sing to celebrate Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. Then, we turn to the story of the last night of Jesus' life, his betrayal, and his death.

Maundy Thursday, March 28: Dinner at 6:00 pm (in person only) followed by a brief service at 7:00 pm (in person and via livestream). After dinner, we'll clean up together, then gather in the sanctuary at 7:00 pm for a brief service with music, scripture, communion, and the stripping of the altar. The service will be livestreamed. We gather as Jesus did with his disciples on the last night of his life to share a simple meal in our social hall and find Christ in community with one another. Then, we move to the sanctuary to reflect on Jesus’ new commandment to love one another, share Holy Communion, and witness the stripping of the altar, a tradition foreshadowing Jesus’ abandonment by his friends.

Good Friday, March 29: Candlelight and shadows at 7:00 pm. Through readings, music, reflections, and sacred art, we tell the story of Jesus' crucifixion and seek his presence at the heart of human suffering around the world today. Where is God when the worst happens? We seek the presence of the crucified Christ at the heart of suffering with this Tenebrae service of candlelight, shadows, music, reflections, and growing darkness.

Easter Sunday, March 31: Service at 10:00 am. Alleluia, Christ is risen! With festive music, chimes, beautiful flowers, and joy, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
